Legal consumers are evolving just as fast as the technology serving them.
Clio’s Legal Trends Report finds that over half of consumers have used—or would consider using—AI to answer a legal question. Of those who did, 28% were directed to contact a lawyer, showing that AI isn’t replacing legal professionals but connecting them to better-informed clients.
As more people start their legal journey online, firms with strong digital presence, transparent pricing, and integrated client-facing technology are positioned to win. “Law firms that embrace transparency and digital-first strategies will gain trust,” the report notes, while those that lag risk “losing visibility in an increasingly competitive market.”
From chatbots to automated intake, AI is rapidly redefining how clients find, vet, and engage with law firms. For lawyers, the message is clear: meeting clients where they start—online and informed—will be key to staying relevant in the age of legal AI.
“AI is not here to replace legal professionals. AI is here to amplify your impact,” said Clio CEO Jack Newton during his ClioCon 2025 keynote.
