Relativity unveils Rel Labs, a $170M innovation initiative and investment arm to accelerate legal data intelligence through partnerships and TLTF collaboration.
Chicago’s Relativity has launched Rel Labs, a new investment arm and innovation hub designed to accelerate transformation across the legal data intelligence ecosystem. The initiative will fund emerging legal technology companies, deepen engagement with developers, and expand strategic partnerships—both directly and through The LegalTech Fund (TLTF).
Rel Labs will serve as a launchpad for innovation, engaging with entrepreneurs and independent software vendors at all stages to extend RelativityOne’s platform capabilities. The company plans to prioritize solutions that help customers tackle challenges in compliance, investigations, data breaches, and other data-intensive legal functions.
“An extensible, partner-rich platform has always been core to Relativity, and in this moment of AI transformation, it’s more critical than ever to back the legal tech community’s boldest ideas,” said Phil Saunders, CEO of Relativity. “Together, we are combining ingenuity with scale to deliver solutions that elevate the practice of law and define the future of our industry.”
Relativity plans to invest more than $170 million in research and development in 2025, amplifying its leadership in legal data intelligence and AI-driven workflows. Through Rel Labs, the company aims to foster new partnerships that extend the reach of RelativityOne, its cloud-based legal data platform trusted by law firms, corporations, and government agencies worldwide.
As part of the initiative, Relativity will collaborate with The LegalTech Fund to identify and support the next generation of promising startups. In this partnership, Relativity will serve as an operating partner, providing strategic guidance, market expertise, and access to its global network.
“Our partnership with Relativity is about more than innovation—it’s about advancing the entire industry,” said Zach Posner, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of The LegalTech Fund. “Together, we can help the next generation of entrepreneurs scale faster and deliver real value to the legal industry.”
Rel Labs reflects Relativity’s expanding focus beyond e-discovery into the broader realm of legal data intelligence, reinforcing its commitment to shaping the next era of technology-driven legal practice.
