Clio Receives Regulatory Approval for vLex Acquisition

Robert Lewis, October 23, 2025

Vancouver-headquartered legaltech leader Clio has received regulatory approval for its proposed acquisition of global legal research platform vLex. This marks an important milestone toward what is expected to become the largest acquisition in legal technology history.

Clio’s CEO and Founder Jack Newton announced the news on stage at the BC Tech Association’s Technology Impact Awards, confirming that all competition and regulatory reviews have been completed. The approval clears the way for the next phase of the transaction process.

Clio announced on June 30, 2025 that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire vLex, the legal intelligence pioneer behind Vincent, a groundbreaking AI platform built on the world’s largest global legal research database. Valued at USD $1 billion in a combination of cash and stock, the acquisition marks the most significant transaction in Clio’s 17-year history.

“This is a watershed moment for Clio and the broader legal profession,” said Jack Newton, CEO and Founder of Clio. “For 17 years, we’ve built the foundational platform that enables law firms to operate at their highest potential. With vLex, we’re building on that foundation with technology that understands the substance of the law.”

Once completed, the acquisition will propel Clio beyond practice management into a new era of integrated legal services, merging vLex’s extensive database of more than one billion legal documents across 100 jurisdictions with Clio’s practice management, billing, and client collaboration tools.
