Microsoft has introduced more than 20 legal skills for Copilot, expanding its push into contract review, drafting, and matter-related work within Microsoft 365.
Building on its earlier Legal Agent, the capabilities let users review agreements against playbooks, propose tracked changes in Word, and draft contracts using approved precedents stored in SharePoint.
In Copilot Cowork, legal teams can delegate tasks spanning multiple documents, including comparing agreements, tracking contractual obligations, and building case chronologies.
Microsoft is also rolling out partner-built plugins connecting Copilot with specialized legal platforms. Partners include Harvey, Legora, iManage, NetDocuments, Thomson Reuters’ HighQ, and e-discovery providers Everlaw and Relativity. Plugin availability will expand over time.
Microsoft says proposed edits in Word require user approval. Copilot respects existing access permissions and sensitivity labels, and customer prompts, responses, and documents are not used to train its underlying foundation models.
The company says the legal capabilities are generally available to Copilot customers worldwide, putting the rollout within reach of Canadian legal teams. A Word feature for navigating between defined terms and their definitions is expected in preview later this month.
