Thomson Reuters Brings Cross-Border CoCounsel Legal Research to Canada

Robert Lewis, October 14, 2026

Thomson Reuters expects its next generation of CoCounsel Legal to become generally available in Canada by the end of October 2026, alongside a new capability designed to simplify cross-border legal research.

Announced today, the Multinational Profile brings legal content from more than 100 countries and territories into a single workflow, helping legal professionals address legal and compliance questions across jurisdictions.

The capability allows teams to compare requirements between countries, trace findings to underlying sources, and identify issues requiring deeper review or local counsel. It draws on Thomson Reuters content and vetted official legal and regulatory sources.

“The professional standard now travels with the work, wherever the matter takes it,” said David Wong, chief product officer at Thomson Reuters.

The broader platform upgrade combines AI with Westlaw and Practical Law content. Features include matter-specific Workspaces that organize documents and institutional knowledge, plus Tabular Analysis for reviewing multiple documents and presenting findings in filterable tables linked to source materials.

Connections to document management and productivity tools are also part of the offering, although Thomson Reuters notes that capabilities and integrations vary by country.

The company plans to make the upgraded platform available to customers in more than 90 countries and territories throughout 2026. For Canadian teams handling international matters, the Multinational Profile aims to reduce the need to switch research tools and rebuild context as work crosses borders.
