Noticia Builds Claira to Help Law Firms Streamline Evidence Review

Robert Lewis, October 22, 2026

Canadian e-discovery firm Noticia has developed Claira, an AI-assisted review product designed to help legal teams work through electronic evidence and retain the insights generated along the way.

The product reflects an approach shaped by hands-on document review. According to Noticia’s Duncan Fraser, the goal was to build software that helps reviewers describe what they need to accomplish, without restricting them to a predetermined menu of tasks.

“Talk to it like it’s a junior, and it’ll scope the task, build the prompt, and run it, and then capture its answers for you to use forever,” Fraser told LegalTech.ca.

That emphasis on retaining results is central to Claira’s approach. Fraser says the product captures AI-generated analysis as metadata within evidence sets, allowing that work to be reused rather than treated as a temporary output.

“We’re capturing knowledge,” he said.

Operating since 2017, Noticia provides e-discovery services to law firms, handling the technical work involved in managing electronic evidence and supporting document review. Fraser previously helped establish the Canadian federal government’s e-discovery capabilities while working at the Department of Justice.

For Noticia, a key market is firms that need to manage substantial evidence collections but cannot justify hiring dedicated e-discovery personnel. The company acts as an extension of those firms, providing the infrastructure and expertise needed to take on more complex files.

“They’ll never hire someone full-time to do e-discovery. So we become their back office,” Fraser said.

The company’s own operations illustrate how technology is changing that work. Fraser says Noticia is handling a growing file volume with a smaller team than it had several years ago, following successive adoption of data analytics, machine learning, and generative AI.

That shift is also changing the skills it needs. Noticia is seeking people who can combine an understanding of legal evidence with technical fluency, as its work increasingly includes advising firms on how to apply AI to review processes.

Fraser also emphasized the importance of keeping client evidence compartmentalized. Reusing analysis within an evidence set is distinct from carrying confidential client material into unrelated matters.

For Noticia, Claira represents a practical response to those demands: helping legal teams extract more value from their evidence while preserving the work already done.
