Canadians at ClioCon: Estateably Helps Firms Take On More Estate Work

Robert Lewis, October 21, 2026

As Canada’s legaltech community heads to Boston for ClioCon 2026, LegalTech.ca is spotlighting five Canadian companies helping law firms rethink how they do business.

Next up is Estateably, which helps firms automate estate, trust, and probate administration so they can take on work they might otherwise refer elsewhere.

For lawyers handling estates, filling in court forms is only part of the administrative burden. Tracking financial activity and producing court-formatted fiduciary accountings can take considerable time, creating a bottleneck for firms and costs that can be difficult to explain to grieving families.

Estateably says that accounting burden is frequently what stops firms from expanding their estate practices.

“When we ask firms why they refer estate work out or cap how much of it they take on, fiduciary accounting is almost always the answer,” the company tells LegalTech.ca. “It’s complex, it’s slow, and most lawyers didn’t go to law school to reconcile ledgers.”

By simplifying and automating that work, Estateably says it has helped multiple firms expand into trust and estate services, giving lawyers and paralegals the tools to handle matters they previously turned away.

Its Clio integration supports the work once a client has retained the firm. Client and matter information already entered in Clio flows into Estateably, reducing duplicate data entry and helping teams get started on estate, trust, or power of attorney matters.

“To be candid about where the Clio integration fits: it doesn’t win the client, the lawyer does,” the company says. “What it does is remove the friction once the mandate is signed.”

That emphasis on efficiency comes with a requirement for accuracy. Fiduciary accountings may be scrutinized by both courts and families, making reliable output central to the platform’s value.

Estateably’s Canadian roots have also shaped how it approaches expansion. The company built its platform province by province, developing experience with the jurisdiction-specific requirements of probate and estate administration. It has since carried that foundation into its initial U.S. jurisdictions, supporting probate and fiduciary accounting.

At ClioCon, the team wants to hear where firms need support next, both geographically and across practice areas. Estateably is evaluating opportunities spanning estates, trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, and powers of attorney, with customer feedback helping determine its priorities.

“We’re especially interested in learning how to make accounting even simpler for people who aren’t accountants, because that’s where the biggest unlock sits.”

The company will also demonstrate its developing AI capabilities for document parsing, which it says can reduce financial statement data entry from hours to minutes.
