Montreal-based Neolegal has acquired Leya, a Quebec digital legal support platform offered through employers, insurers and financial institutions, expanding its presence in the employee benefits market.
The acquisition brings more than 50,000 people with access to Leya into Neolegal’s ecosystem. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Leya allows users to instantly book consultations with lawyers and notaries, making virtual legal support available as a workplace benefit.
Neolegal CEO Philip Hazeltine said Leya’s established position in group insurance will help accelerate the company’s growth in that market. Leya founder Ryan Hillier described the deal as a fit with his vision of making legal support a standard employee benefit alongside dental care and mental health services.
Founded in Montreal in 2017, Neolegal uses technology and automation to deliver online legal packages for individuals and businesses. Its offerings also include software for law firms and legal support integrated into group insurance and employee benefits programs.
The company says combining its technology with Leya’s employee benefits expertise will help it develop more accessible legal services and broaden its reach through organizational partners.
