Spellbook has appointed Meltem Kuran-Berkowitz as chief marketing officer as the Canadian legal AI company expands beyond contract review into broader contract management.
Kuran-Berkowitz, who had been leading marketing on an interim basis, will oversee growth and marketing globally. The appointment supports Spellbook’s expanding suite for in-house legal teams, including its Autonomous Contract Management platform, which handles contracts from intake through renewal.
She previously spent five and a half years as head of growth at Deel, joining in 2020 when the payroll and workforce platform generated less than $1 million in revenue and remaining through its growth past $1 billion in annual recurring revenue.
“I like hard problems and products that solve for a very tangible outcome,” said Kuran-Berkowitz.
In a LinkedIn post announcing the appointment, CEO Scott Stevenson highlighted the parallels between the two companies.
“What Deel did for hiring, Spellbook is going to do for every contract,” Stevenson wrote.
He credited Kuran-Berkowitz’s experience building growth teams across regions and product lines, pointing to her contributions during her interim tenure.
Spellbook says its customer base has grown from roughly 2,700 to 5,000 in-house teams and law firms over the past year. It serves customers in more than 80 countries and has reviewed over 10 million contracts.
The company says it is on track to reach $100 million in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2026.
