Relativity has announced claiR, a conversational artificial intelligence experience that will allow lawyers to ask plain-language questions across the complete record of a matter in RelativityOne.
The company says claiR can analyze millions of documents, their metadata and the relationships among them, returning answers grounded in and cited to the underlying record. Designed for litigation, investigations and regulatory response work, the product is intended to give lawyers more direct access to information that has often required assistance from litigation support or legal technology teams.
The ability to trace answers to source material addresses a central concern surrounding generative AI in legal work. Relativity also says sensitive matter data will remain within RelativityOne rather than being exported to a separate AI service. Firms will nevertheless require appropriate governance, access controls and processes for verifying outputs.
“This isn’t lawyers learning their way around RelativityOne. It’s a fundamentally new way to get them straight to the answers in their most consequential legal data,” Relativity CEO Phil Saunders said in the company’s announcement.
claiR expands on Relativity’s existing aiR Assist product. While aiR Assist answers questions using indexed document sets, claiR is designed to reason across the full matter record, including metadata and connections between documents.
For Canadian firms and legal departments already using RelativityOne, claiR could offer a more accessible way for lawyers to engage with large case records. Its practical impact will depend on its performance in live matters and whether organizations can achieve efficiency gains while maintaining rigorous verification standards.
