After a pair of major acquisitions laid the necessary groundwork, Clio is bringing its AI-powered legal workspace home.
The Canadian-founded legal technology company has launched Clio Work in Canada, giving lawyers access to matter-aware AI grounded in more than 470,000 Canadian cases from over 40 courts.
The launch represents the latest step in Clio’s effort to combine legal research, firm data, and AI within a unified workspace.
Clio Work draws upon the complete context of a matter—including documents, tasks, deadlines, client communications, and notes—alongside relevant legal authority. The platform is designed to help lawyers identify issues, evaluate arguments, uncover risks, develop strategy, and carry that work through to drafting.
Canadian lawyers can use the platform to quickly surface the key facts and dates within a matter, research Canadian law, pressure-test potential strategies, and create or refine legal documents.
Clio Work can also plan and complete complex, multi-step assignments through simple instructions. According to Clio, lawyers retain visibility and control throughout the process, while research results and other outputs are linked to their underlying sources for review.
The Canadian debut follows a significant expansion of Clio’s legal data capabilities.
Last November, Clio completed its US$1-billion acquisition of vLex, bringing together its legal technology platform with vLex’s global legal research library and AI capabilities. The transaction, described by Clio as the largest acquisition in legal technology history, positioned the company to deliver Clio Work to lawyers internationally.
But launching the platform in Canada required a deeper foundation of trusted, AI-ready Canadian legal data.
Clio addressed that need in June when it acquired Jurisage, a Canadian legal AI and data company co-founded by Aaron Wenner and Ariel Nacson. Jurisage built one of the country’s most comprehensive AI-ready legal datasets, covering more than 470,000 cases across over 40 courts and updating the collection daily.
The acquisition also brought CiteRight, Jurisage’s litigation drafting platform, into Clio.
“The Jurisage acquisition paved the way for the Canadian launch of Clio Work,” said Clio co-founder and CEO Jack Newton. “No other AI understands both the specifics of a firm’s matters and Canadian law itself. That’s a powerful combination.”
Since its initial launch in October 2025, Clio Work has become the fastest-adopted product in the company’s history and is now used by tens of thousands of legal professionals.
Its arrival comes as Canadian lawyers move quickly from experimenting with AI to incorporating it into everyday legal work. Clio’s research found that 95 percent of Canadian legal professionals now use AI in some capacity, although many continue to rely on general-purpose tools that were not built around Canadian law or individual matter context.
Luke Slan, Clio’s General Manager for Canada, said lawyers already using Clio Work have described the experience as a relief because the technology arrives with an understanding of their work instead of requiring them to repeatedly reconstruct the context.
The distinction is central to Clio’s pitch for the platform. Rather than treating research, case information, strategy, and drafting as separate activities, Clio Work connects them within the matter itself.
With vLex supplying global legal intelligence and Jurisage filling the critical Canadian data gap, Clio can now offer that experience in the market where the company began.
