Torys Rolls Out Harvey AI Across Firm

News Brief, April 13, 2026

Canadian business law firm Torys is expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities through a new partnership with Harvey, deploying the legal-focused platform firmwide in a move that signals growing momentum for enterprise-grade AI adoption across the country’s legal sector.

The rollout positions Torys among the first Canadian firms to implement Harvey at scale, with the platform set to support a range of legal workflows including due diligence, contract analysis, compliance, and litigation. As part of the engagement, Harvey will provide onsite support to help develop firm-specific use cases and drive adoption across Torys’ practice groups.

“This is the latest step in the continued evolution of our AI strategy,” said Matt Cockburn, Managing Partner at Torys. “We are taking a deliberate and disciplined approach to scaling our AI capabilities, and Harvey’s platform, together with the onsite engagement, reinforces our commitment to responsible AI adoption.”

The collaboration reflects a broader shift within leading law firms toward embedding AI directly into legal operations, moving beyond pilots to sustained, organization-wide use. A key focus for Torys will be ensuring consistent adoption, an area where many firms have struggled despite early experimentation with generative AI tools.

“This is a high-value collaboration between Torys and Harvey,” said Sukesh Kamra, the firm’s Chief Knowledge and Innovation Officer. “A core challenge with any new technology is achieving sustained use. Harvey’s legal engineers will work closely with our practice groups and knowledge and innovation team to drive adoption through a growth mindset.”

According to Kamra, the partnership will accelerate the development of matter-specific workflows while supporting the firm’s team-based approach to delivering client services.

Torys has been an early adopter of legal technology in Canada. The firm was the first in the country to apply AI to due diligence matters in 2015 and has since participated in early pilots of legal-specific generative AI tools. It was also the first Canadian firm invited to join the Responsible AI in Legal Services (RAIL) initiative, underscoring its focus on governance and ethical deployment.

Harvey, which positions itself as an operating system for legal and professional services, has rapidly gained traction among global law firms and large enterprises. The company says its platform is now used by more than 1,300 customers across 60 countries, supported by investors including Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, GV, and the OpenAI Startup Fund.

“Torys is known for its work on complex, high-stakes matters and building lasting client relationships,” said Harvey CEO Winston Weinberg. “We are honoured to partner with the firm on its AI transformation journey and to support a firmwide adoption designed to deliver meaningful impact.”

The announcement highlights how Canadian firms are moving from experimentation to operationalizing AI, with a growing emphasis on workflow integration, change management, and measurable client value.
