Clio Debuts Draft for Canadian Firms

News Brief, April 1, 2026

Clio is expanding its legal AI platform in Canada with the launch of Clio Draft, bringing document automation and AI-powered drafting tools to law firms across the country.

The release marks a significant step in Clio’s effort to deliver a more integrated “system of action” for legal professionals, combining practice management, client intake, and now intelligent document generation within a single platform tailored to the Canadian market.

“Document drafting still takes up a significant portion of a lawyer’s day,” said Luke Slan, General Manager, Canada at Clio. “With Clio Draft, we’re helping firms automate that work—turning documents into reusable templates and AI-powered workflows so lawyers can focus more on delivering better outcomes for their clients.”

Clio Draft enables firms to convert Word-based precedents into automated templates, automatically populating client and matter data across documents. The platform is designed to reduce manual data entry, minimize errors, and accelerate document creation—allowing legal professionals to generate complete documents in minutes rather than hours.

The Canadian rollout includes jurisdiction-specific support, with a growing library of court forms and templates beginning in Ontario and British Columbia. Initial coverage spans estate planning, probate, and family law in Ontario, alongside estate planning and family law in B.C., giving firms access to up-to-date, localized documentation.

A key differentiator for the Canadian market is Clio Draft’s infrastructure. The solution is hosted entirely on Canadian servers, ensuring compliance with strict data residency and privacy requirements. This approach is intended to give firms confidence in adopting AI-powered tools while maintaining alignment with law society expectations and client data protections.

Clio Draft is available immediately as an add-on to Clio Manage for Canadian customers, extending the company’s document automation capabilities—previously proven in the U.S.—to law firms operating in Canada.
