A Toronto startup wants to make sure the “epilogue” of your life is written exactly as you wish.
Toronto’s Epilogue offers Canadians a quick, affordable way to create legally binding Wills and related documents online.
The platform guides users through a structured questionnaire to generate customized Wills, Powers of Attorney, and supporting materials in roughly 20 minutes.
Features of the platform include automated document preparation, execution instructions, asset and contact tracking, social media directives, and secure storage.
Epilogue, which launched from the Legal Innovation Zone at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2019, was cofounded by former estate lawyers Arin Klug and Daniel Goldgut.
“We wanted to provide a better way to make a Will, so more people could do it,” the founders say.
They describe the Epilogue process as “simple, affordable, and light on the legal jargon.”
The legal-tech company offers a basic Will for $139, which includes final wishes, a record of assets and key contacts, plus more.
For $199, an enhanced will option offers complete protection that covers both death and incapacity, enabling the user to appoint someone to handle your finances if you become incapable or name someone to make health care decisions on your behalf.
The Dundas Street startup collaborates with various entities, such as RBC Royal Trust, and utilizes NotaryPro for witnessing and notarization services across provinces.
In 2024, Epilogue joined the Treefrog Accelerator, which helps Ontario-based technology ventures expand market-ready products.
The startup was then ranked by moneyGenius as Canada’s best online will platform in 2025.
